Construction on track

Dec 01, 2012

The Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital development in Kawana is progressing well, being more than half way through construction.

Ramsay Health Care's new private hospital, co-located with Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH) on the Kawana Health Campus, is on target to open in December 2013.

Recent milestones include the completion of the internal fit-out design, including the construction and testing of a ward prototype room and ensuite.

The next stage of the development is the completion of the West Block facade, with the aim of achieving a water tight building by Christmas.

Building company John Holland said that more than 270,000 man hours have been completed by workers onsite.

The hospital will have an initial capacity of 200 beds and will provide a significant range and volume of services to public patients through a service purchase agreement with Queensland Health whilst the Sunshine Coast University Hospital is being built and commissioned. Up to 110 beds worth of public patient services per annum will be provided during this period.

Activity onsite has increased in recent weeks with the commencement of initial works for SCUH, due to open in late 2016.
