Sneak Peak at new Private Hospital

Aug 17, 2012

The Hon Jarrod Bleijie MP, Member for Kawana and Professor Paul Thomas, Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Board Chair were among the first to receive a guided tour of the new Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital by Ramsay Health Care today.

The Private Hospital, currently under development at Kawana is just over one third the way through construction and expected to be completed and opened in December 2013. The VIPs were toured right through the facility from the top floor, giving them an idea of the view of the coastline and hinterland from this level.

Ramsay Health Care CEO Chris Rex said the building was going according to schedule and he was very pleased with the progress so far.

"When this hospital opens in 2013, it will represent a new era in health service delivery in terms of public and private collaboration. We are very pleased to be working with Queensland Health to provide improved and expanded services to the Sunshine Coast community," Mr Rex said.

"Ramsay Health Care already has a significant portfolio on the Sunshine Coast, operating Noosa, Nambour Selangor and Caloundra Private Hospitals and we look forward to continuing to be the major provider of health care services in this region to both private and public patients.

"With a growing population on the Coast and a growing need for psychiatry and rehabilitation services we look forward to expanding these services in addition to the new medical and surgical services that will be offered at the Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital."

Planning for fitting out of the operating theatres and the intensive care unit are now well underway at the hospital and Ramsay Health Care says these facilities will be equipped with the latest technology.

The hospital will also have a catheter laboratory for cardiac procedures.
