Countdown on to private hospital opening

The countdown is on with only four months until the opening of the Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital.

The excitement is building as areas of the hospital are progressively completed, with the construction program now close to 90% complete.

The first private patients will be admitted to the hospital on Monday 4 November 2013.

The building envelope is now substantially complete, with remaining works being the external awnings and canopies. Permanent water and sewer connections have been established.

Construction of the medical consulting suites has commenced together with landscaping works. Internally, the final finishes such as painting and flooring have commenced on Levels 1 and 2. The internal campus intersection with Kawana Way is due to be completed in July.

Approximately 185 workers are onsite every day, with more than 600,000 construction man hours completed to date.

The 200 bed private hospital will provide a wide range of medical and surgical services. Onsite facilities will include six state-of-the-art operating theatres, day surgery unit, cardiac catheter laboratory, day oncology unit and an eight bed intensive care unit. Medical consulting suites will be located on the ground floor, as well as pathology and radiology services. The four storey hospital will contain all single patient rooms with ensuites.

The private hospital will be collocated with the Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH) on the Kawana Health Campus. The private hospital will provide a range of services to public patients through a service purchase agreement with Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service to assist in meeting demand whilst SCUH is being built and commissioned.

This contract to provide services to public patients will commence at the beginning of December.

The private hospital's management team is being put in place, with a number of key positions having being appointed recently.
