Hospital Celebrates First Anniversary

Today marks one year since Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital opened its doors.

In the last 12 months, the new private hospital has admitted more than 15,000 patients and performed 12,000 procedures. A recent patient satisfaction survey conducted by an independent organisation highlighted almost 90% of SCUPH patients rated the hospital as Good or Very Good.

Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital Chief Executive Officer Oli Steele said that the first anniversary was a significant occasion for the hospital community.

“We are extremely proud of our hospital and the extraordinary effort of our dedicated team of staff and doctors over the last year,” Mr Steele said.

“SCUPH offers a wide range of medical and surgical services, and as such, many patients who previously would have needed to travel to Brisbane for treatment are now able to get that treatment close to home. To support that we have recruited a number of Doctors in specialties including Orthopaedics and Urology who are new to the region.”

“In addition to our Sunshine Coast patients, we are seeing people from areas as far north as Bundaberg travelling to SCUPH to receive their treatment.”

A major achievement in the first year of operation was the introduction of interventional cardiology services, and the opening of the first dedicated private cardiology ward on the Sunshine Coast.

The hospital has provided a significant economic boost to the Sunshine Coast community in terms of employment, supplier businesses and contracting businesses. SCUPH employs more than 600 staff, many of whom are young and starting out on their careers in health care.

Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital also provides a range of services to public patients and during the first 12 months approximately 9000 public patients were treated at SCUPH.
