Dr Jill O'Donnell

MCh, FRCSI, FRACS Vascular

Dr Jill O’Donnell is an Irish and Australian dual trained Vascular Surgeon with interests in endovascular surgery. She undertook her undergraduate medical degree at the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland. She successfully completed her Masters of Surgery and post graduate Higher Surgical Training in several large tertiary referral hospitals across Ireland.

In 2011 she passed the Intercollegiate Fellowship examination in Vascular & General Surgery (FRCSI) and commenced a rigorous 18 month vascular and endovascular surgery fellowship in Westmead Hospital, Sydney. After this she was fortunate to get further experience in the busy John Hunter Hospital, Newcastle and St George Hospital, Sydney. Jill obtained her Australian and New Zealand Fellowship (FRACS) of Vascular Surgery in 2015 after passing the Australian intercollegiate examination.

Dr O’Donnell relocated to the Sunshine Coast in 2016 and has helped develop vascular services for the region. She worked as Clinical Director of Vascular Surgery from 2017-early 2020 and guided the local vascular unit with its transition into the electronic medical record, new hybrid theatre facility, vascular laboratory, clinics and transition to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital. Jill has a keen interest in undergraduate and post graduate teaching and is heavily involved with the Royal College of Surgeons Surgical specialties examination committee and standard sets for the vascular SET examination. She is a regular invited research article reviewer for Vascular Journal and contributes to both national and international vascular meetings. Jill has been involved with the VasoActive cardiovascular research group at University of the Sunshine Coast for several years.

Her vascular interests are diabetic feet, ulcers, renal access, minimally invasive approaches to varicose veins and venous disease including radiofrequency ablation, open carotid surgery, open and endovascular approaches to aortic and peripheral arterial disease.

Jill believes in tailoring vascular surgical care to the individual, not a one size fits all approach. She likes to involve and educate patients about every stage of their health care journey. She looks forward to offering these services to patients and their families on the Sunshine Coast.

Jill is committed to developing regional vascular services for the Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay and Gympie regions. She operates from Noosa Hospital and Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital and consults inpatients at Nambour Selangor Private Hospital.
