Sunshine Coast's first Cardiac Surgical case

Dec 01, 2017

The Sunshine Coast’s first ever Cardiac Surgical case was successfully performed at the Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital on Tuesday 28th November. The precise operation was an aortic valve replacement, for a female Sunshine Coast patient, by Cardiac Surgeon Dr Douglas Wall, supported by colleague Dr Robert Tam.

Dr Wall commented, “My team and I are proud to bring this advanced health service to the Coast. We have serviced Sunshine Coast patients for many years however from today the vast majority of those patients will be able to be operated on locally here at the Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital.”

The hospital’s Cardiac Surgical service has been several months in the making having received regulatory approval and is part of the hospital’s strategy to expand the range of services available to private patients on the Sunshine Coast and Wide Bay region.

Hospital CEO, Oliver Steele, paid tribute to the dedication of his hardworking staff in making this possible, “This has truly been a team effort with practically all departments across the hospital working together to ensure the successful start of our Cardiac surgery program. We are delighted that this is another milestone in the range of private services the Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital offers to its private patients.”
