Dr John Hansen is a Specialist General Surgeon with a interest in colorectal surgery and has been practising on the Sunshine Coast since 1996.

Dr Hansen completed his Medical Training at University of Queensland in 1984. He was awarded a Government Scholarship to complete his studies and worked as a Medical Practitioner in Gayndah, Mundubberra, Biggenden and Innisfail before embarking on a career in Surgery. He completed his training in general surgery at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane in 1994. After working in Basingstoke in the UK for 2 years furthering his studies in colorectal surgery he returned to Australia in 1996.

Dr Hansen worked at Nambour General Hospital initially as a general surgeon for 5 years and subsequently as Director of Surgery for 2 years. He commenced private practice in 2002.

Dr Hansen has been actively involved in teaching Medical Students and in training Surgeons. He was appointed Chairman of the General Surgical Training Board of Queensland from 2006-2010. He also served on the National Board of Training during this time. Dr Hansen was appointed to the Court of Examiners for the Royal Australian College of surgeons in 2011.

Dr Hansen has served as the Chair of the Medical Advisory groups at both Caloundra Private and Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital. He attends regular meetings and continues to remain up to date with current advances in Surgery. Dr Hansen regularly presents his results for audit. He is involved in state based committees to assess the outcomes of bowel surgery.
