Dr Scott McDonald

Dr Scott McDonald is an Australian trained Specialist General Surgeon who has lived and worked on the Sunshine Coast since 2014. After graduating from James Cook University, QLD in 2006 he commenced surgical training in 2009 through the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane. Dr McDonald trained in broad range of general surgical specialities and developed a passion for minimally invasive surgery.

Dr McDonald gained fellowship to the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2014 and commenced working on the Sunshine Coast at Nambour Hospital. After honing his skills as a general surgeon he went on to complete further training in colorectal surgery at the Western Hospital in Melbourne in 2016.

Dr McDonald returned to Sunshine Coast University Hospital as a full-time Consultant Surgeon in 2017. He is dedicated to providing the highest level of personalised care to his patients. Dr McDonald hopes to put his patients at ease during their surgical journey by communicating in a relaxed, and easy to understand manner.

Dr McDonald treats a broad range of general surgical procedures with particular interest in colorectal surgery. He is GESA accredited and performs upper and lower endoscopy with skills in providing concurrent management of rectal bleeding such as haemorrhoids and fissures. He has advanced skills in laparoscopic surgery providing minimally invasive options for bowel cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease and complex endometriosis (in combination with his gynaecology colleagues).

Dr McDonald embraces the relaxed, outdoor lifestyle of the coast with his three young children and supportive wife. He enjoys fishing, hiking and all manner of beach activities with his family when he is not providing expert care to his patients.
