Dr Benjamin Stokes is an obstetrician and gynaecologist practicing at Coastal IVF in Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast. He works alongside his father Dr Paul Stokes in managing patients with infertility. Ben also offers general gynaecology services with a special interest in minimally invasive surgery such as total laparoscopic hysterectomies and advanced endometriosis. Ben offers private pregnancy care and only shares on call with his colleague at Coastal IVF - Dr Robert North. This guarantees patients that they will be delivered by an obstetrician they know.
Ben graduated from Monash University in 2012 and completed his specialty training across several major hospitals in Southeast Queensland. During this time he also completed a Masters in Reproductive Medicine and pursued further training in infertility. Ben is an ongoing member of the Fertility Society of Australia (FSA) and is currently undertaking research in ovulation induction therapies. Ben has also been trained in 2mm microinvasive laparoscopy. Coastal IVF is one of the only units in Australia to offer this technology that results in less pain, better cosmesis and faster recovery than traditional 5mm laparoscopy. This is a great tool for diagnostic laparoscopies, tubal dye studies and treatment of endometriosis.
Ben, along with the team at Coastal IVF believes in the importance of identifying a diagnosis and targeting/ individualising treatment. This is extremely important with infertility where patients are often labelled as "unexplained infertility" and treated with a shotgun approach (usually IVF). By identifying a cause/s, management can be personalised and often a pregnancy can be achieved without the need for expensive and invasive treatments such as IVF.
